SAADI Gymnastics have teamed up with ELEVATE Volunteering to create an exciting Young Leadership Programme for gymnasts between the ages of 11 - 13 who are passionate about the sport and want to learn more.
Here’s what Elevate founder Gemma says about the programme:
My name is Gemma Wright and I am the founder of Elevate Volunteering. I have been a Gymnastics coach since 2008 from volunteering to a full time career. I have been lucky enough to have a career in the sport I am so passionate about. I have worked in a number of clubs in the East Region where I have been Recreational Manager, Competitive Coach, Events Coordinator, National Judge and Volunteer Leader. With Elevate I am looking forward to showing my love for the sport and sharing my knowledge and experiences with the next generation of coaches.
Elevate Volunteering will work with SAADI to provide introductory courses to ensure a positive start to your coaching career. Elevate will be taking you through courses such as:
- Introduction to Health and Safety/ Wellbeing - It is one of the most important aspects of coaching. I will be taking you through how to deal with situations, who to go to when in need and also how to create safe set ups in the settings your club provides.
- Introduction to Recreational Gymnastics– In this pathway I will be taking you through preparations and safe set ups for all skills required for progressive gymnastics. I will show you set ups that have been used in a number of clubs that can be transferred and easy to follow. In the pathway we will go through the importance of recreational gymnastics and the significance preparations play in the learning process for gymnasts.
- Lastly, I will be covering an Introduction to Judging - In the final pathway I will be covering the flip side to coaching– Judging. We will cover the basics to officiating a gymnastic competition, the roles a judge plays and an introduction to the judging process. These skills can be transferred to In House competitions and further educational courses but can provide you with a small taster into the Judging scene.
After the courses the Young Leaders will be allocated a mentor from our Senior Leadership Team. They will attend a minimum 2 hours each week working hands on in a class, usually with their mentor. Each term they will attend a YLVP review meeting to discuss what they have learnt and outline a plan for the next term.
